Polish Review - Cherry Red

Once last year, or the year before, I got a manicure. It was the first manicure I'd ever had, and it was great. For those of you who have never had one -- it's kind of like having your fingers trimmed and your nails fortified.

This made me feel as though a manicure might be the perfect thing to get right before going to Burning Man. The second manicure I ever had was on the day I left for the playa this year. It turns out that it was a great idea, for a few reasons:

1. If your nails are short and strengthened with several layers of lacquer, they are less likely to get caught and painfully broken while building and playing.

2. If your nails are colorful, you can't see how dirty they really are. (Yucky, I know, but it helps me freak out less about cleanliness when I can't see all the playa under my nails.)

3. Caring for your hands helps keep them healthy.

4. Freshly manicured nails are totally girly and also sexy. It's a really simple way to show that you take time to care about yourself and personal hygiene.

Upon returning from the desert, I decided this was something I wanted to try to keep up all year long. It's a nice simple thing I can do for myself, and it's become quite a rewarding little me-time ritual since then.

So, since this is going to be a regular thing, it can also be a regularly shared thing. :)

Without further ado, I present, my first nail polish review!

(I know... riveting, right?)

Sally Hansen's Xtreme Wear nail color in Cherry Red #07

Cherry Red is a creme color, and it definitely lives up to the extreme wear promise. This polish has lasted longer without chipping than any others I've tested so far -- a whopping 4 days. The first chip was tiny, and easily patched for a night-time dinner outing. It provides great coverage in two coats, and has a pretty decent shine, even with just my quick-dry top coat on. When it came time to kiss Cherry Red goodbye, it was easy to remove, and didn't stain my finger tips.

...and now for the scoring part. I think any review needs some sort of score, and scores should be fun, so here goes... The Finger Scale!

On a scale of one (I'll let you guess which one) to ten (ALL IN!) fingers, I give Cherry Red:

Cost: 10 fingers - I picked this color up on sale, buy one get one 50% off, original price $2.99.

Coverage: 8 fingers - It went on and covered well in two coats, but it was extremely thick and that made it harder to work with.

Wear: 10 fingers - This may change later, but so far this is the longest wearing polish I've tested, at 4 days with no chips.

Clean-up: 7 fingers - I did use acetone polish remover, and it took 4 total cotton balls to clean up.

Color: 10 fingers - I got exactly what I expected. A true red that matched the bottle color completely.

Final Score: 9 fingers!
